Hi! I’m Jiali Liu, a composer and music AI researcher exploring how computational systems can support musical imagination and creative expression. I hold a Master of Music in Composition from the Longy School of Music of Bard College and a Bachelor of Music in Composition from Xinghai Conservatory of Music.
My research centers on understanding and shaping musical sound, developing controllable music generation methods, and creating expressive audiovisual experiences. Drawing on my training in composition, orchestration, and musical analysis, I am interested in how AI can respond to a creator’s intentions while preserving musical structure, continuity, and nuance.
My current projects include TIPS, a text-guided instrument separation framework for traditional Chinese instruments, and an interactive music emotion analysis tool. I also explore video-to-music generation and create audio-reactive visual work with TouchDesigner. Across research and artistic practice, I seek to give creators more meaningful ways to listen, experiment, and shape music with AI.
